Happiness in simple things

Can you imagine the smell of fresh baked rye bread with garlic? – Food of many an ordinary people.  They work inconspicuously in the basement kitchen, preparing a lavish dinner for their aristocratic masters who sit above with an air of pretentiousness.  Yet these house staff themselves are content with what is little & simple.  What would we prefer?  Contentment eating simple food with your friends or extravagance without true human warmth or sincerity?
